Basic Skin Care Regimen for Every Age

Life looks and feels different at every age—and so does your skin. Here’s a glance at what a skin care regimen should include in your teens, 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond if you are a skin minimalist – selected by Dr. Timm Golüke

IN YOUR TEENS

AM: Use sunscreen
PM: Wash your face

Studies show that the sun’s UV radiation causes 90% of skin aging. It’s never too early to start protecting your skin and a great habit to start young.
Also non-negotiable: Washing your face before bed to get rid of dirt, sweat, pollution and maybe make-up.

IN YOUR 20's

AM: Wash your face + use sunscreen
PM: Wash your face + apply a moisturizer

Applying moisturizer before bed protects the skin from dehydration as you sleep, making it easier for them do the repairs they need do.

IN YOUR 30's

AM: Wash your face + use sunscreen
PM: Wash your face + use a vitamin A product + apply a moisturizer

In your 30´s it is important to introduce vitamin A (Retinol) in your routine. Studies have shown that topical retinoids help with reducing fine lines by increasing collagen synthesis and decreasing collagen breakdown.

IN YOUR 40's and Beyond

AM: Wash your face + apply an antioxidant and your sunscreen
PM: Wash your face + use a Vitamin A product + apply a moisturizer

Studies have shown that antioxidants protect your skin against photoaging. They are neutralizing the damaging free radicals created by the sun and pollution before they activate the breakdown of collagen.
